3. China to accelerate treaty with US: Xi

China will accelerate Bilateral Investment Treaty talks with the US, said Xi during the sixth round of China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue in Beijing on July 9 last year.

"The two countries should speed up BIT talks and try to make a high-standard, balanced agreement as soon as possible with the aim of improving economic relations between China and the US," he said at the opening ceremony.

Considering the significant economic volumes of the two countries and the integration of various interests between them, Sino-US cooperation will bring huge benefits to the world while confrontation will lead to disaster, he said.

4. Xi embraces Deng's legacy by upholding China's unique path

Xi vowed to uphold socialism with Chinese characteristics and China's independent "path, theory and system" on Aug 20 last year as China marked the 110th anniversary of the birth of Deng Xiaoping.

Addressing a symposium to mark the anniversary, Xi said the most important political and theoretical legacy of the late Chinese leader is socialism with Chinese characteristics, which the Party and people created under the leadership of Deng.

Socialism with Chinese characteristics fits China's reality and meets the needs of the times, which is why it works, he said.

"The independent path, theory and system are keys to the sovereignty and dignity of our country as well as the self-esteem and independence of the Chinese nation," he said.

Xi appreciated Deng's pragmatic perspective to always "seek truth from facts" as well as political courage and sense of responsibility to test uncharted waters and break new ground. He also praised his vision as a statesman and noble personality as a leader.
