The construction of the Jinmeng (Jin is a nickname of Shanxi province and Meng means the Inner Mongolia autonomous region) Yellow River Bridge was launched on Jan 14. The bridge will link Shanxi's Shenhe (Shenchi to Hequ in Shanxi province) Expressway with Ordos in Inner Mongolia.

Linking the Shenhe Expressway at the beginning, the bridge stretches 4.86 kilometers to the planned Dafangpu-Longkou expressway in Inner Mongolia. This two-way six-lane bridge's construction will last three years with estimated investment of 1.05 billion yuan ($169.13 million).

The Jinmeng Yellow River Bridge is a significant transport channel for the mid-north part of Shanxi to connect Inner Mongolia’s Ordos, Hohhot and Baotou in the west and to cross Hebei to Rongcheng in Shandong province in the east.

The Bridge will improve Shanxi's capability in coal transportation and will be a more convenient channel to reach some tourist destinations in the province. It is also a bridge to strengthen economic and cultural communication and exchange between Shanxi and Inner Mongolia.
