The city of Erdos in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region was named as a National Garden City by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Inner Mongolia Daily reported on Sept 9.
Inner Mongolia has been attaching great importance to the city’s green construction in recent years. By the end of 2013, the greening area of the autonomous region’s built-up areas had reached 38.49 percent, while the greening coverage rate overall was 41.98 percent. The green area is 31.23 suqare meters per capita.
Erdos was selected as a garden city at regional level as early as 2011. And in 2012, the city officially applied for National Garden City status to the Housing and Urban-Rural Development Ministry after upgrading itself in accordance with the Application and Evaluation Methods of a National Garden City. After on-site checking and comprehensive assessment, it won the title of National Garden City in 2014.
