Inner Mongolia to promote large-scale dairy farming

The Inner Mongolia autonomous region, a major dairy industry region in North China, will grant special funds to promote standardized large-scale dairy cattle farming, Xinhua reported on Jan 6.

Special budgetary funds will be spent to build standardized large-scale dairy cattle farms in the next two years, 60 million yuan ($9.91 million) per year. In addition, the government will seek state funds specializing in dairy cattle standardization construction over 100 million yuan per year, according to the Inner Mongolian government.

The autonomous government introduced that three kinds of farms are qualified for the special funds: a standardized large-scale dairy farm built by dairy farmer cooperatives or joint farms, which were organized by small and medium-sized farms and backyard farms; a farm that is in cooperation with dairy products enterprises; and a standardized farm with backyard farms accounting for 30 percent of its members.

The subsidy standards vary in accordance to the amount of livestock. A farm with more than 300 dairy cows can receive a subsidy of 800,000 yuan. A farm with dairy cows less than 300 but more than 100 can qualify for a subsidy of 600,000 yuan.
