Changsha county, in Central China's Hunan province, is a sub-district of Changsha city, the provincial capital, and covers a 1,997-square-kilometer area with 13 towns, 187 villages and 83 communities. It has a population of 743,000.

The county government has made it one of 18 national ‘reform and opening-up' areas and it has a plan to build itself into a sub-center of the city of Changsha up to 2020.

The county has well-connected and convenient transportation, with the Changsha-Yong'an Highway, Airport Expressway, Belt Expressway, the provincial road S103, national highway 107, Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Highway, and the Wuhan-Guangzhou railway all running across it.

More importantly, it is home to the Changsha Huanghua International Airport and only eight kilometers away from both the Changsha Railway Station and the Xiangjiang River Port. The city's subway Line 2A will open to service before 2020, connecting the Xingsha-Mapoling center and the Wuguangxin station.

The county is focused on industrial development to the south and agriculture to the north, with new industrialization methods for urbanization and agricultural modernization. The county has given special attention to innovation for industrial transformation and upgrading and is working to become a leader in construction machinery and automobile development.

Changsha county did $4.65 billion worth of foreign trade in 2017, up 46 percent year-on-year. The number of import and export enterprises in the county increased to 267 from 182, among which the traditional advantageous industries, such as high-tech products of mechanical and electrical products and auto parts, still ranked the top three in foreign trade with $3.525 billion, $1.003, and 806million, respectively.

In 2017, it had a GDP of 143.11 billion yuan, up 11.3 percent year-on-year, ranking first in Changsha. It also had 294.44 billion yuan in industrial output value, up 12.8 percent, including 266.26 billion yuan output value of industrial enterprises above designated size, up 12.9 percent.

In 2017, Changsha county completed 95.59 billion yuan of fixed asset investment, up 17.2 percent year-on-year. It laid out 172 major city-level construction projects with a total investment of 110.7 billion yuan. New breakthroughs were made in attracting investment, including 70 major projects, with a total investment of 60 billion yuan.The per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents in Changsha is about 37,000 yuan, up 8.9 percent year-on-year.

It was named China's happiest city to live in , and won the China Habitat Environment Award twice. It is also known as a garden city and civilized county.

Changsha seeks to revive porcelain production

In recent years, the local government has sought to revive the region's long tradition in porcelain making and boost local industry with the cultural influence of ancient Tongguan kilns, which have a history of 1,200 years.
