The residence, built in 1795, is made of mud and wood, on a 680-sq-m space, and has 36 rooms of various sizes. It has a board above the main gate, engraved with the name of Yang’s hometown in Mao Zedong's style.
On October 16, 2006, the provincial Development and Reform Commission announced an investment fund from the central budget, eventually reaching 24.5 million yuan, with 12.7 million for infrastructure, 9 million for road work, and 2.8 million for maintenance. A new museum was added, with a parking lot, drainage system, toilets, plants, and signs.
