The 2nd World Emerging Industries Summit, with the theme “Innovation Leads Development, Cooperation Creates Future,” was held in Wuhan, capital of Hubei province, on Nov 22.

The event attracted participants from more than 60 countries and regions, including the keynote speaker, former French Prime Minister and Global Chairman of the Asia Pacific CEO Association, Dominique de Villepin, CEOs from fortune 500 and Forbes 2,000 enterprises, experts, scholars and senior executives of emerging industries.

The summit included forums on energy efficiency and environmental protection, biotechnology, intelligent manufacturing industry and the development of the digital service industry.

De Villepin said that breakthroughs in science and technology in the last 20 years had come from emerging economies, and they were achieved due to the efforts of these countries which used their own strengths and advantages to promote their new industries.

He also said that Wuhan is a symbol of China’s rapid development in infrastructure, and most cities in the country have achieved rapid development through both political and economic strategies in the past 10 years.

The futurist and author of Megatrends, John Naisbitt, and his wife Doris, discussed development trends in China and around the world, and said that an increasing number of emerging economies are ready to play more integral roles within the global economy.

The economist and Global Executive Chairman of APCEO, Zheng Xiongwei, distributed two reports, “World Emerging Industries Development Information” and “World Emerging Industries Development Proclamation of Wuhan,” and his research shows that China’s strategy for emerging industries has already made significant achievements and shows good development potential.

The mayor of Wuhan, Tang Liangzhi, said that the development of new industries in China should focus on innovation, restructuring and strategic initiatives.

He also said that the city, one of the country’s comprehensive high-tech industrial bases, intends to create opportunities for cooperation with the global business community, scientists and educators.
