Dangyang city in central China's Hubei province has initiated four projects, with a total investment of 6.05 billion yuan ($992.2 million), with the aim of promoting the development of its tourism industry, hubeitour.gov.cn reported.

The four projects concern Guangong Cultural Tourism Town, Dangyang Oriental International Hotel, Wanjing Lake Resort and also Baibaozhai Scenic Spot.

Guangong Cultural Tourism Town, with an investment of 5 billion yuan ($820 million), covers an area of 1,650 mu (110 hectares).

The project, which was started on May 31, includes programs such as worshipping Guan Gong, also known as Guan Yu, a general who served under warlord Liu Bei during the Three Kingdoms period (AD 220-280) who was famous for his loyalty and righteousness.

The tourism town is expected to hire 2,000 workers, and officials expect that 3 million tourists will visit the town, leading to revenue of 300 million yuan ($49.2 million) per year.

The Dangyang Oriental International Hotel has been completed and it will open for business at the beginning of November. The hotel has more than 300 guest rooms, 10 conference rooms and a banquet hall with a capacity of 2,600 people.

The other two projects are still under construction, and they are expected to attract many visitors.
