Shennongjia 'needs more protection'

A national park should be built in order to protect the ecosystem in Shennongjia, Hubei province, in Central China, suggested Qian Yuankun, a deputy to the National People's Congress (NPC), Xinhuanet.com reported on Tuesday.
Shennongjia is one of the world's 13 biodiversity accumulation regions with conservation value and the only region with well-preserved virgin forest on the world's 31 degrees north latitude. At present, the region has four separate nature reserves and parks. A higher and more unified system should be built to better protect the region, said Qian.
