Tourists may develop their understanding of the three historical events which influenced the process of Chinese revolution; the Wuchang Uprising of the 1911 Revolution, Macheng Uprising and the founding of the Fourth Red Army.
■ Highlights of the route: Northeastern Hubei has witnessed many glorious revolutionary events. The main highlights are Wuchang Uprising of the 1911 Revolution, Macheng Uprising and the footprints of Mao Zhedong, Dong Biwu, Li Xiannian and other great people. In Wuhan, Hongan and Macheng, we may track down the footprints of revolutionary martyrs and recall the great contributions of martyrs.
Hubei is an important place to the Chinese revolution. The Wuchang Uprising of the 1911 Revolution, Great Revolution, Agrarian Revolution, Anti-Japanese War and the War of Liberation, were all staged in Hubei. As a reflection of this, revolutionary tours are very popular in Hubei and Wuhan, Hongan, Yingshan and Luotian are in the ranks of 100 classic revolutionary tourist areas in China.
At present, revolutionary tourism of Hubei may be divided into three major areas and are mainly in the areas centering on Wuhan, Dabieshan and Honghu Qujiawan.
Wuhan plays a vital role in the Chinese revolutionary history as many major historical events took place there. It has the former site of the National Institute of the Peasant Movement, Former Residence of Mao Zhedong, Martyr Xiang Jingyu’s Tomb, “February 7th” Martyr Monument, the former site of “the Fifth National Congress of the Communist Party of China” and more.
Dabieshan Mountain is the original place of Huangma Uprising, the birthplace of the Fourth Red Army, and the main war zone of the War of Liberation and all sites are well preserved.
Hongan county alone has 340 historical revolutionary sites. Honghu Qujiawan was the capital of Western Hunan and Western Hubei Soviet Area and the cradle of the Second Red Army in the Second Revolutionary Civil War. He Long, Zhou Yiqun, Deng Zhongxia, Duan Dechang and other excellent politicians and militarians regarded Baili Lake as a base and created a glorious model for guerrilla war in the water. Additionally, there is also the former site of Yangxin Longgan Revolution, the former site of the Northern Expedition in Tingsiqiao, Xianning and the former site of the central China military area command headquarters in Xuanhuadian, Dawu, which all bear witness to the Chinese revolution.
Hubei has successively introduced a series of excellent revolutionary tourist routes, including “revolutionary tour to Dabieshan Mountain”, “red army long march tour”, “tour for tracing the footprints of revolutionary great men”, “tour to Red Guards on Honghu Lake” and “revolutionary tour to northeastern Hubei.” These tours allow viewers to acknowledge the revolutionary hot spots, learn about the history, see the scenic areas in Hubei and cherish the memory of revolutionary martyrs.
