Chaibuxi Grand Canyon

Chaibuxi Grand Canyon scenic spot is hailed for its precipices, stone forests, deep and secluded valleys, limpid streams, primitive ecology and Tujia ethnic folk customs.

Chaibuxi Grand Canyon scenic spot is located in the eastern part of Wufeng Tujia ethnic minority autonomous county, Yichang city, Hubei province. It is in the internationally acknowledged “peculiar northern latitude 30 degrees earth ring,” with unusual karst landforms and typical canyon needle karst landscapes. It joins Wulingyuan in the south, Qingjiang River in the north, Three Gorges in the east, and the mysterious Shenlongjia scenic area in the west. In 1996, it was approved as a national forest park. In 2005, National Tourism Administration ratified it as an AAAA-class scenic area.

 

With a total area of 80 square kilometers, Chaibuxi Grand Canyon scenic spot is hailed for its precipices, stone forests, deep and secluded valleys, limpid streams, primitive ecology and Tujia ethnic folk customs. The site integrates primitive ecological sightseeing, recreation and outdoor activities.

Chaibuxi comprises of four major scenic zones: Tanzikou, Dawankou, Jiaokou and Duanshankou. It also has an inner ecological protection zone and 120 unusual scenic sites. The scenic spot is known for its beauty in the grand canyon, particularly at the bottom of the rivulets. The canyon is permeated with peculiar needle karsts and silvery waterfalls.

Precipices and stone forests, deep and secluded valleys and limpid streams, primitive ecology, and Tujia ethnic folk customs are the four major scenic features of Chaibuxi. The marvelous summits and deep and serene canyons have created an unusual natural landscape for the canyon.

Local residents are fond of singing local Nanqu folk songs and dancing Tujia ethnic dances.
