In the Jan – Sept period, the port cargo throughput of Hebei province reached an aggregate of 652 million tons, up 17.5 percent year-on-year and fulfilling 81 percent of this year's goal, with Qinhuangdao, one of three of the top harbors, handling 201 million tons, equaling to all of last year, and 296,000 containers, up 6.9 percent.
Tangshan port's throughput broke the 300 million barrier, at 326 million tons, with 530,000 containers , up 78.5 percent. Over at Huanghua, the throughput was 125 million tons, for an increasing of 36.8 percent, with 175,000 containers, up a whopping 207 percent. As for the goods, coal, minerals, and steel rose more than 14 percent.
Hebei's throughout capacity is expected to top 800 million tons by the end of this year, with 2 million containers.
For the same period, Hebei spent 12.33 billion yuan ($2 billion) on port facilities – 6.01 billion at Huanghua port, with 12 projects; 6.15 billion on Tangshan, with 14 projects; and 170 million on Qinhuangdao. At Huanghua port, work on a third phase of its coal terminal is completed, while work on the first phase of a comprehensive cargo port and a bulk cargo port is underway. Work on a coal wharf in the Caofeidian district of Tangshan to provide ship berths, is in the second phase. And, a work on Berths No.26 and 27 at Jingtang harbor is expected to be finished by the end of this year. |
