Hebei province's capital, Shijiazhuang, says it will focus on local development by making better use of its industrial structure and encouraging emerging industries, to keep its powerhouse status for the whole province.

Wang Liang, the mayor, said on Monday that three major parts of the city need to coordinate their policies to improve industrial structure and shift the focus from traditional industries such as steel, to emerging ones, such as services.

One of the parts, a new area in Zhengding, needs to act as a pilot, Wang pointed out, by encouraging new project development to raise the capital to a higher level. In three years, the new area is expected to be a top, modern zone, one that is attractive to outside companies, and one with a better environment.

In addition, the city government will try to give some motivation to economic development in small counties nearby and do something about air pollution in the province.
