Jiang Weixin, the head of the Housing and Urban-Rural Development Ministry, made a trip to the city of Qinhuangdao, Hebei province, on Oct 28 to get a look at the energy-saving work that has been done there and the work on a national green energy-saving demonstration area.

Qinhuangdao has been serious about implementing national standards on urban development, in recent years, to fairly good effect. And it has made some progress in developing a national demonstration site for green, energy-saving buildings in the city’s new Beidaihe district, for which it has drawn up a plan.

During his visit, Jiang said that two demonstration areas -- Area C at “Waterside” and the new Beidaihe district -- need to be done at a very high level to stand the test of time and history. He added that energy efficiency is one of the Ministry’s main concerns and is expected to drive the nation’s economy and improve the standard of living.

Area C at “Waterside” involves a demonstration program with low-energy construction work and development.
