Lu Xiqing, a 16-year-old student, was named an outstanding youth model by the Hebei provincial government for helping a disabled classmate for eight years.

"I just acted as a pair of legs for my classmate," Lu said. His classmate, Liu Xiao, is unable to walk as a result of a congenital spinal problem.

Through primary school and junior high, Lu shouldered Liu on his back to the toilet, exams and outdoor activities.

However, Liu has not been able to continue studying with Lu, who was enrolled at a key senior high school in 2010, due to his deteriorating health.

Liu said his life was lightened by Lu and he will remain positive in the future.
