Weather experts say north China will continue to experience more water shortages despite recent snow showers. With crop land fast drying out, the Ministry of Agriculture is urging for more support by implementing anti drought measures.
The latest coating fell in north China's Hebei Province and Beijing but major wheat-growing regions in Shandong and Henan provinces have not enough rainfall. Henan, Shandong, Hebei and Anhui provinces produce 65 percent of wheat in China, and are the world's largest producer of the staple food. As of Sunday, the drought has affected over seven million hectares of wheat crops in eight provinces, accounting for nearly 40 percent of the total crops there. |
