Six people were detained and several wineries shut down in Changli county in North China's Hebei province after authorities found wine containing several chemical additives, the provincial government said on Sunday.
An expose broadcast by China Central Television over the weekend revealed that wineries were doctoring their beverages with sugar water, coloring agents and artificial flavorings, and then falsely using famous brand names.
An inspection team from the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine has arrived in Changli to investigate the case.
