Shijiazhuang Zhengding International Airport has received a record high of 2.64 million passengers in the year until Monday, doubling the number of 2009.

To congratulate this achievement, Hebei government held a special meeting to honor the Heibei Airport Management Co, who are responsible for the running of Shijiazhuang airport.

Hebei provincial governor Chen Quanguo addressed the audience and set new targets for Shijiazhuang airport, saying it should take a leading role in advancing aviation in Hebei.

The targets include a passenger throughput of 4 million and cargo throughput of 40,000 tons next year. By the end of 2015, the passenger numbers should reach 10 million while cargo throughput should reach 120,000 tons.

Founded in 1995, Shijiazhuang Zhengding International Airport has maintained low level passenger flows for many years. However numbers began to increase following the revamp and expansion of the terminal building in 2008, and the addition of eight new carriers to airport. 13 national airlines were opened for passengers in 2010.
