Hebei’s ports attracted investments totaling 36.3 billion yuan from 2006 to 2010, almost twice that during 2001-2005, an official at the Hebei communication bureau said.
Hebei’s berths grew from 80 in 2005 to 116 this year, and their designed carrying capacity reached 486 million tons -- 59 percent higher than in 2005.
During the last five years, three mega-port projects – Qinhuangdao, Tangshan and Huangpu – began operations, and their yearly total throughput exceeds 100 million tons. An economic surge along the coast contributed to growing near-port industries, the official said.
