In 2008, the CPC set a goal to double income of rural residents by 2020 at a plenum meeting. In addition to raising rural incomes, the CPC set an agenda to provide better social welfare and public service in rural areas in the upcoming 12th five-year program period.
The biggest wish Wang has is to be able to pay for his 15-year-old son's education in senior high school and eventually in college.
"He cannot have a life like mine," said Wang, who is in a new rural pension program that partly pays for the treatment of a blood vessel disease he suffers from.
With a government student loan program already in place for college education, and the government's decision to extend the program to senior high schools for students from low-income families over the next few years,
Wang's wish might have a good chance of becoming reality.
