Recently, Hebei Provincial Bureau of Statistics released the evaluation results on city comprehensive development of Hebei province in 2009. Tangshan, with a total index of 156.30, ranks first among 11 cities and districts across the province. The average level of social development of Hebei province is 130.43.

Among the six areas included in the evaluation, Tangshan ranks the first in economy, population development, and public welfare, third in citizen livelihood, 10th in social security and 6th in environmental protection. In these areas, social security index moved a step forward from the previous year and the indexes in other areas remain the same.
