Recent years have seen Chengde’s efforts to reorganize its unsound economic structure. Today, against a background of global financial crisis, Chengde attaches even more importance to its industrial structural adjustment, focusing on setting up a modern industrial system and organizing a system of resources superiority. Relying on scientific innovation, Chengde is forging ahead with creating competitive brands and upgrading related industries.
Taking advantage of its rich local resources, Chengde is actively planning construction projects with focuses on six competitive industries: vanadium and titanium products manufacturing, green energy, green agriculture, tourism, equipment manufacturing, and new materials. At present, there are 515 key projects with a total investment of over 10,000,000 yuan, 33.4% more than the same period of last year. Also, the industrial construction zones total 13, covering an area of 260 square kilometers.
The vanadium and titanium metallurgy industrial construction zone is the second largest magnetite reserve in China and technical advantage in the vanadium industry. There are 69 enterprises located in the zone. Six deep processing projects are still under construction, which adopt new production technologies and will boost the production capacity to 23 billion yuan.
In addition, Chengde is making efforts in developing green energy. It is reported that Chengde has launched a wind power project with capacity of 2 million kilowatts. Up to now, the total installed capacity has reached 600,000 kilowatts. With respect to hydroelectric power, there are 26 hydropower stations with an installed capacity of 38,300 kilowatts.
To develop green agriculture, Chengde has begun a new strategy: strengthening agricultural cooperation between Beijing and Chengde, making competitive brands of organic products. Green agriculture in Chengde maintains gratifying growth momentum in spite of the global economic slowdown.
To share with the world its rich cultural heritage, Chengde, one of China’s top ten scenic attractions, is forging ahead to build itself a tourist city from a high starting point. It is planned to build eight tourist sites and make four types of tourism products, including imperial buildings sightseeing, eco-tours, rural tourism, and folk custom tours.
