Cotton industry
Hebei is one of China's major cotton-producing provinces. In 2004, planted cotton covered 669,000 hectares, ranking fourth in the country; total output was about 665,000 tons, ranking third. Cotton grown in Hebei is very competitive for its early maturation and processing, which has given rise to a large-scale textile industry. About 40 million tons of cotton is processed into textiles, about 8 percent of the national total.
Modern logistics industry
Logistics is an emerging industry in Hebei that benefits from its convenient location and major logistics hubs of Shijiazhuang, Tangshan, Langfang, Handan and Zhangjiakou, as well as Shijiazhuang international logistics park and 30 other major logistics and distribution facilities. The province’s ports, railways and roads are contributing to the development of a modern logistics system that relies on domestic demand, interacts with Beijing and Tianjin, faces the whole country and connects the world.
Information industry
The information industry in Hebei has increased at a rapid pace in recent years. They include new screen technology, modern communications, software, integrated circuits, new components and new electronic materials. A relatively centralized industrial layout has been formed integrating Shijiazhuang, Baoding, Langfang, Tangshan, and Qinhuangdao. A number of major information technology application projects are underway, while the radio industry is thriving.
Medicine
Hebei is well known for production of both traditional and mainstream medicines, especially in raw materials and herbal processing. Its production of 7-ACA, oxytetracycline and other chemicals ranks first in China; the output of penicillin, streptomycin, vitamin C, vitamin B12 and anhydrous glucose ranks first in the country while more than 10 kinds of preparations such as penicillin powder for injection, amoxicillin, lincomycin, cefazolin, cephradine, cephalexin top production in the nation.
Innovations in technology, institutions and management continue to make the pharmaceutical industry in Hebei increasingly competitive both at home and abroad.
Steel
A full industrial chain, including mining, sintering, iron making, steel making, steel rolling, coking, and other sectors, is operational in Hebei.

Petrochemical industry
A relatively complete industrial system has been established that includes the industries of petrochemicals, marine chemicals, coal chemicals, basic chemical raw materials, agriculture, fine chemicals, biochemical engineering, polymer materials, rubber and plastic products and chemical machinery. A large number of products enjoy high reputation at home and abroad. A more technologically advanced industry with its own distinguishing features is gradually forming with the integration of upstream and downstream production along with rational allocation of resources.
Clothing
After years of construction and development, Hebei’s clothing sector has formed a complete industrial system of cotton textiles, printing and dyeing, chemical fibers and finished clothing, as well as wool spinning, knitting, home textiles, industrial textiles, textile machinery and equipment manufacturing. The province continues to implement its brand strategy to highlight the comprehensive competitiveness of its enterprises.
