The opening ceremony of the Big Data Research Institute of the Guizhou Academy of Sciences was held in Guiyang, capital of Guizhou province, on Dec 1.
Experts and scholars from home and aboard gathered together to discuss topics involving the application of the internet, internet of things, cloud computing and big data technology, as well as regional economic development.
The institute adopts mixed ownership and tries to develop science combined with abundant financial support and efficient talent utilization mechanisms, promoting effective the transformation of scientific achievements and sustainable development.
The institute has undertaken eight scientific projects from national ministries, institutions of higher education and large-scale enterprises.
Drawing about 100 yuan million ($14.52 million) in funds and setting up a scientific and technological innovation team, it has also gained 32 patents for software copyright and corresponding technology, and constructed "the three systems and seven platforms", including a public opinion monitoring system and a big data integration platform based on Hadoop.
