Guizhou is located in the eastern Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau of Southwest China. It is contiguous to Hunan, Chongqing, Sichuan, Yunnan and Guangxi from the east, north, west and south, respectively. It covers an area of 176,200 square kilometers, with six cities and three minority autonomous prefectures (88 counties). lt has a population of nearly 40 million. Guizhou is one of the resource-richest provinces in the country. Adhering to the Western Development Campaign and economic globalization, the provincial Party committee and provincial government have proposed the focal theme of speeding up development, accelerating economic structure transformation and promoting leap-forward development. Therefore the strategy of promoting the city through industrialization and urbanization are being implemented with earnest efforts. Transportation
Several traffic circles will be realized to connect Guizhou to other cities. A two-hour traffic circle will connect it to Chengdu, Chongqing, Kunming and Changsha. A four-hour traffic circle will connect it to Wuhan, Guangzhou and Xi'an. A six-hour traffic circle will connect it to Shanghai, Nanning and Zhengzhou. An eight-hour traffic circle will connect it to Beijing and Lanzhou. By 2015, Guizhou’s traffic network will expand to the south, east, west and north.
Guizhou is an important channel to the sea and a land transportation hub in Southwest China. 2023 kilometers in expressway construction and 2066 kilometers for railway construction made the total mileage is up to 14 thousand kilometers. It has five railway lines, connecting Sichuan-Guizhou, Hunan-Guizhou, Guiyang-Kunming, Guizhou-Guangxi, and Nanning-Kunming. There are regional airports in Guiyang, Tongren, Xingyi, Anshun, Liping and Libo. The three branch-line airports in Zunyi, Bijie and Liupanshui are stepping up construction.

Rich energy and mineral resources
The bauxite reserves in Guizhou amount to 5.9 million tons, ranking fourth in the whole country. Phosphorus ore reserves in Guizhou amount to 3.29 billion tons, ranking third in the whole country. The manganese ore reserves in Guizhou amount to 9.8 million tons, ranking third in the whole country. The antimony ore reserves in Guizhou amount to 273,300 tons, ranking fourth in the whole country. The gold ore reserves in Guizhou amount to 213.31 tons, ranking fifth. The barite reserves in Guizhou amount to 12.6 million tons, ranking first. The reserves of thin native ores in Guizhou amount to 1.5 million tons, ranking second.
Its potential hydropower reserves amount to 16.83 million kilowatts. Its coal reserves amount to 47.4 billion tons. It is known as the coal city in the south region of the Yangtze River. The unit cost of hydropower and thermal power in China has led Guizhou to become an important base for the national West-East electricity transmission project.
A total of 127 kinds of minerals have been found in the province, including 28 kinds with great reserves ranking in the national top five. It is worthy mentioning that those minerals have an very prominent superiority in the resources, such as aluminum, phosphorus, manganese, antimony, gold, barite and so on.
Biological resources
It is a major source region of animal and plant resources and one of China’s four major regions for the production of traditional Chinese herbs. Guizhou is home to 6,000 species of wild plants, more than 500 species of which are edible; about 600 of which can be used in industry; 240 of which can be applied to afforestation, beautification and anti-pollution; and about 3,924 of which can be classified as medical plants. In a word, this province has excellent agriculture for the development of organic foods and biological drugs.

Guizhou has two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, 18 major national scenic spots, nine national nature protection areas, eight national geological parks, 39 State-level major cultural relic preservation sites, and two national historical and cultural cities. There are more than 1,000 scenic spots with development value. Guizhou does not get unbearably hot in the summer or extremely cold in winter. It is a popular summer resort in China.
