Nuotang opera is a traditional folk opera in Yanhe county, Southwest China's Guizhou province which is performed by the people of the Tujia ethnic group for the purpose of worship.
After the beating of drums and blowing of horns, actors wearing masks and bright-colored costumes start the performance - singing and dancing in the center of the room. Originally, the Tujia people performed the opera for good luck and the bravery to overcome hardships. Passed down for hundreds of years, the opera has gradually become an annual festivity.
