The 2nd Xiuwen Kiwi Fruit E-commerce Feast was held in Xiuwen county of Guizhou province on August 22 attracting more than 500 representatives from China's well-known e-commerce enterprises, WeChat business teams, fruit distributors and fresh food supermarkets.
The feast aimed to expand the online market for Xiuwen kiwi fruit and promote the development of e-commerce poverty alleviation, helping farmers in mountainous Guizhou sell their products to more cities outside the province.
Nearly 30 enterprises signed contracts worth about 350 million yuan ($50.96 million) during the event, which involved more than 40 million kilograms of kiwi fruit.
At present, Xiuwen has built up six provincial modern and efficient agricultural demonstration parks. The planting area of Xiuwen kiwi fruit has reached 179,700 mu (11,980 hectares), making the county the largest base for kiwi fruit planting, preservation and processing in Guizhou.
In recent years, an e-commerce public operational service center with 76 rural e-commerce service stations and a county-level logistics service center has emerged in Xiuwen.
With the help of the development of e-commerce, the county has incubated more than 2,000 e-commerce enterprises or personal e-commerce stores with a variety of online sales channels, such as Tmall, Jingdong, Suning and Ctrip.
As of now, over 5,000 local residents have been provided jobs or opportunities to start their own business.
Data shows that last year the retail sales volume of the county has reached 135 million yuan, a year-on-year growth of 54 percent.
Last year, Xiuwen successfully held the First Xiuwen Kiwi Fruit E-commerce Feast, with the amount of contracts signed totalling over 20 million yuan.
