Guiyang's Zhuyuan Garden won both the innovation and comprehensive awards at the 11th China (Zhengzhou) International Garden Expo recently and received praise from tourists and experts.
Ninety-four gardens from 92 domestic and overseas cities attended the expo, making this year's event the most popular yet.
Zhuyuan is located in the exhibition area of west China and covers an area of 1,575 square meters. The construction period lasted from March 25 to Aug 15 last year.
The garden takes inspiration from the urban layout of Guiyang and is heavy on bamboo. It reinforces Guiyang's image as an ecological city.

Starting from the Yingdong entance, tourists will see the central waterscape, which represents the three reservoirs in Guiyang, and next to it an arched landscape suspension bridge made with bamboo.
After passing through a bamboo path covered by mist, tourists can rest at Youhuangju, a building made of bamboo, and enjoy a doorway which was inspired by the outline of Guiyang's famous Jiaxiu Pavilion. The garden ends with Zhuyingtai, another waterscape.
Decorated with 20 different kinds of bamboos and other gramineous plants, Zhuyuan provides a simple and elegant visual effect. The garden takes the characteristics of Guiyang's mountainous area and the idea of a sponge city to create a quiet, artistic environment.
