The 2018 Zunyi International Chili Expo will be held in Zunyi city, Guizhou province from Aug 17 to 20, along with the 2nd Belt and Road Initiative Chinese Hotpot Industry Summit, according to a news conference on Aug 10.
The event consists of various forums and activities, including a summit on how to build Zunyi into a world-class chili processing and trading base, a signing conference for chili business investment, a conference for hotpot raw material purchasers and chili-related cultural festivals, and an online chili expo.
It is expected that a total of 1,200 representatives of chili enterprises and organizations from over 20 countries and regions will participate in the event, including the United States, Britain, Germany and the Netherlands.
Zunyi has held the chili expo two times, and it has become an important promotional event for the city's chili industry in recent years. Last year's expo saw a total of 103,000 visitors and 29 deals worth more than 4.66 billion yuan ($0.68 billion) signed.
Official data shows that, last year, the chili planting area in Guizhou was 4.94 million mu (329,333 hectares) and had an output of 5.43 million tons valuing 15.2 billion yuan.
In 2017, Guizhou ranked first in chili production, processing and marketing in China, with its products being sold to more than 40 countries and regions.
