Guizhou province unveiled the Joint Laboratory of Big Data on Independent Tourism in its capital city of Guiyang on May 24.
Launched by the Guizhou Internet Information Office, the Guizhou Tourism Development Committee, the China Tourism Academy and the Chinese travel website Mafengwo, the lab will deepen the development and integration of big data and the province's cultural tourism industry.
The lab is the first big data laboratory aimed at the tourism market and industry research. It combines the professional scientific research capacity of the China Tourism Academy and the advanced data acquisition and analytical ability of the Mafengwo.
Through research and analyze of tourists' behavior, including their decisions and other data dimensions, the trends and features of the tourism industry are discoverable to promote transformation and upgrading.
Meanwhile, the lab will set up a tourism big data processing center in Guizhou, helping local government and enterprises better understand the development of the tourism industry and the changes in its markets.
In recent years, the integration of the internet with cultural tourism in Guizhou has had notable effects. Guizhou is taking advantage of big data to become a world-famous mountain tourism destination.
Tourism in Guizhou rose by 253 percent last year, the highest growth rate in Southwest China, according to a report launched by the lab at the unveiling ceremony.
