Tongren, a city in northeastern Guizhou province, signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Hanergy Holding Group Ltd, a multinational clean-energy company, on March 26 to boost the city's green development.
Relying on Hanergy's experience in constructing eco-cities, Tongren hopes to gradually eliminate traditional non-renewable energy in the near future and transform itself into an ecological city.
Established in 1994 and headquartered in Beijing, Hanergy Holding Group Ltd has branches in provinces all over China as well as in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, Africa and other regions. It specializes in areas such as hydropower, wind power and thin-film solar power.
According to the local municipal government, with support from Hanergy, Tongren will introduce green, environmentally conscious projects such as green city structures, a green industrial zone, green transportation, green administration, eco-agriculture, green lifestyle, water ecology etc., to achieve sustainable growth and turn Tongren into an internationally standardized eco-city.
In addition to the cooperation agreement, a local innovation platform called "mobile energy+" was also unveiled at the signing ceremony.
The innovation platform will aid Tongren in its quest to become an international eco-city. The "mobile energy+" platform will attract more investors and encourage more people to start their own business, boosting the local economy, according to the municipal government.
