Guizhou Provincial Government issued an implementation plan to protect and restore wetland, local media reported on Jan 15.
The plan encourages the whole society to engage in the efforts of protecting and restoring wetlands. According to the plan, the province will achieve following goals by 2020.
The first goal is to control the province's total area of existing wetland to ensure that the area is no less than 209,700 hectares.
The next goal is to improve the ecological function of wetland, making the wetland protection rate and the waterfront preservation rate reach up to 50 percent and 35 percent respectively.
Moreover, the province plans to improve the wetland system by establishing one wetland of international importance, two wetlands of national importance and 70 wetlands of provincial importance by 2020.
The plan will also increase the investment and strengthen the protection and restoration mechanism of wetland.
