Guiyang, capital of Guizhou province has announced plans to build approximately 1,000 parks across the city by 2020 in an effort to build a greener and more eco-friendly city.
It is expected that the city will network parks of different sizes and functions. The afforestation coverage in the city is expected to reach 50 percent.
Currently, 705 parks are open to the public in Guiyang, providing space for locals to enjoy an outdoor stroll or exercise.
"It feels like we live in a garden," said one local in Guiyang. "There are two parks near my house and my children play there at weekends."
This year, the city will open 237 newly built parks, a large step toward its sizeable goal.
