Residents of Lu’an town, Qianxinan Bouyei and Miao autonomous prefecture, have found a new way to improve local incomes through growing bananas.
Utilizing the local climate and soil conditions, authorities planned a banana growing base across some 2,000 mu (133 hectares) land. More than two million yuan ($290,301) has been invested in the project and 400 mu of land has been reclaimed to cultivate bananas.
Over 120 households have signed agricultural contacts with local authorities, bringing an annual turnover of 7,500 yuan to each. The base has also provided jobs for more than 1,000 people.
Bananas from Lu’an town have been sold in Guangdong and Henan provinces.
