The fifth session of the 11th Guizhou Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) opened in Guiyang, capital of Guizhou province on Jan 15.
The province’s achievements in 2016 and development plans for 2017 were revealed at the conference. Chen Min’er, Guizhou provincial Party chief, attended the opening ceremony to deliver a keynote speech.
According to Chen, Guizhou made efforts to relieve poverty and develop its big data industry in 2016. Construction projects for a national ecological pilot zone, big data comprehensive pilot zone and an inland open economy pilot zone in Guizhou also passed national examinations last year. FAST, China's gigantic five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope also started operation in Guizhou.
Chen also pointed out that Guizhou is now at an important juncture to shake off poverty and realize an overall well-being for its citizens. Chen urged that Guizhou should insist on developing the economy and protecting ecological resources in the following year.
