Guiyang has released a plan to become an innovation-oriented city from 2016 to 2030 by developing its big data industries.
Xu Hao, vice mayor of Guiyang, announced the plan on the second day of the 3rd World Internet Conference, in Wuzhen, Zhejiang province on Nov 17.
According to Xu, businesses play a major role in the digital economy and their innovation is indispensable. The role of the government is to help them grow and guide them along the way.
“We’ll invest 40 billion yuan ($5.82 billion) over three years into information infrastructure, with the aim of redeveloping the internet structure,” said Xu.
Guiyang, capital of Guizhou province, has prioritized the development of its big data industry and is encouraging traditional enterprises to apply the new production models featuring digital technologies.
