Guizhou province is building Liupanshui city into China’s first demonstration city for Protected Eco-Origin Products (PEOP), as it has recently received approval from the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People’s Republic of China.
PEOP refers to a product that has a manufacturing process that is environmentally friendly, low-carbon and energy-saving, whilst still maintaining the original characteristics of the product.
Pan Lusheng, head of the Guizhou entry-exit inspection and quarantine bureau, explained that in the following three years Liupanshui will declare 37 PEOPs, and declare 14 agricultural products demonstration areas, registering 25 related enterprises.
Liupanshui is a resource-based city with large coal reserves. It has attached importance to developing a low carbon economy in recent years in an effort to improve the local environment.
