Guiyang recently received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission – the country’s top economic planner to build the second phase of the city’s metro system.
The project will consist of four lines, cover 114.1km and cost 72.8 billion yuan ($ 10.91 billion).
According to the plan, public transportation in Guiyang will account for 40 percent of all traffic modes. The scale of Guiyang's Metro system will account for 30 percent of public transportation, bringing more convenience to people in the future.
The project is expected to streamline the city’s public transportation system, make it more comprehensive and play an important role in modifying the structure of the city. It also aims to optimize urban space and advance city planning.
In 2009, the short-term construction of Guiyang Metro was initiated. Line 1 and the first phase of line 2 will be finished before 2020.
