Around two dozen carpenters from France, Britain, Germany and Norway took part in a work camp with Chinese counterparts on Sept 8 in the city of Guiyang, Guizhou province to put together a traditional wooden house.

The activity is to push for the protection of old villages and houses in the area and arouse attention to the need to preserve traditional crafts.

The organizer, the Ruan Yi Heritage Foundation of Shanghai, explains that the house is being built completely manually with local Chinese carpenters cooperating on the walls, floor and decorations and that the finished product will most likely be used as a heritage site for craft training and other activities.
