A statistical monitoring report for Guizhou's science and technology development was published for the first time on Tuesday. Guizhou has taken the lead in China in adopting full and overall statistics and monitoring on science and technology (S&T) development.
The Guizhou Provincial Science and Technology Agency, with 15 other provincial departments, initiated efforts to develop comprehensive and overall statistics and monitoring on S&T development in 2012.
Guizhou has a long way to go in S&T development. It ranked 28th overall two times since 2006 (beating Yunan, Guangxi and Tibet in 2007 and 2008). It ranked 30th in the other five years.
One-third of the data applied in the statistical monitoring report was used to calculate the S&T index. The other data applied to economic and social indexes.
Su Qing, deputy director-general of the Guizhou Provincial Science and Technology Agency, said,"Recognizing Guizhou's shortcomings from the report will help us stimulate scientific and technical innovations and further realize the significant development of Guizhou."
The statistics and monitoring measure S&T development environment and foundation, S&T input and output, and economic and social development accelerated by S&T development.
