Affected by comprehensive factors, the shortfall of daily water in the southern part of Guiyang, capital city of Guizhou province, has totaled 95,000 tons since early this year.
In dealing with the drought, Guiyang will divert water from the Songboshan reservoir to solve the problem.
"Water shortage is rare in Guiyang, but it happened this year. There are three factors that can cause water supply shortage in Guiyang," said Zhang Yiqiang, chief engineer of the Guiyang water conservancy bureau.
"Compared with that of the same period last year, Guiyang's rainfall has dropped by 30-40 percent."
Zhang continued,"Also, the distribution of rainfall is uneven this year. With the construction of Gui'an district and Huaxi university town, water supply requirements are increasing sharply."
"After the water diversion project, Huaxi reservoir's capacity can increase so that it can meet the manufacturing requirements of Zhongcao and Huaxi water plants."
