Pingtan opens first Hong Kong container liner route

Mintaiyihao, the first container liner to service a route from Hong Kong to Pingtan, arrived at its destination of Jinjing Wharf in Pingtan, Fujian province on Jan 10.

Zhang Qinghua, general manager of the Fuzhou Port Group (Pingtan) Co, introduced the liner, starting from Hong Kong every Wednesday, will arrive at Pingtan's Jinjing Wharf every Friday via Fuzhou's Mawei Wharf.

He also added that the number of voyages may increase in accordance with business developments conducted between the two cities.
Hong Kong is one of the world's cross-border freight distribution centers and the opening of this container liner route may see Pingtan become a distribution hub along China's southeast coast for Hong Kong’s goods to enter the mainland market.
Lin Xinglu, director of the Pingtan department of cross-border trading, said the increasing shipping routes connecting Pingtan with Taiwan and Hong Kong shall provide corporations in the city with a more diversified trading approach and give further impetus for the development of the shipping logistics industry.
