Pingnan Siping Opera, also known as “Shumin Opera” and “Minbei Siping Opera”, is still being practiced today at Longtan Village, Pingnan County. It has been passed on from generation to generation within the Chen clan since the late Ming Dynasty(1368-1644).

The Shumin opera style originates from the Siping Tune popular in the Ming Dynasty(1368-1644), and within theatrical circles Shumin opera is known as “a living fossil of Chinese Siping Opera” and “a successor to the Ming Dynasty(1368-1644) Siping Opera”.

Since being brought into Pingnan after the Ming Dynasty(1368-1644), Siping Opera has been passed down though 15 generations.
