Sculptors interpret their works in Pingtan

Singing Rock by Xia Hexing from China

“To complete this piece of work, I travelled to Chongwu county (in Fujian) to pick this black granite by myself. Part of the granite is made in the shape of a piano.”

“This creation is for my daughter who started learning the piano at the age of 5. She is now a great pianist. I have tried to freeze the music in my sculpture.”

Tower by Lin Zhengren from Taiwan

“I made the model of this creation 30 years ago. But it didn’t win any prizes. I didn’t expect it would be acknowledged in Pingtan 30 years later.”

“The headless and armless Buddha carved on the front indicate the endurance of time. The other sides are a mix of landscapes, naked western females and dragons, which is a dialogue between East and West, abstract and representation, as well as past and present.”
