560 b yuan investment boosts Fujian transportation

Fujian province invested 560 billion yuan ($ 85.11 billion) in transportation during the 12th Five-Year Plan period (2011-2015), bringing historic changes to its transportation infrastructure, according to a statement of the Fujian Development and Reform Commission.
During the five years, the road network was improved with an investment of 348 billion yuan. The total length of road construction reached 103,000 kilometers including 2,600 kilometers of new expressways, 3,600 kilometers of trunk roads and 13,000 kilometers of rural roads.
The 115 billion yuan investment in railway networks was put into the construction of eight railways, running from Hefei to Fuzhou, Xiamen to Shenzhen, Xiangtang to Putian, Longyan to Xiamen, Ganzhou to Longyan (an extension of an existing line), Nanping to Sanming to Longyan, Fuzhou to Pingtan and Quzhou to Ningde. The first five were finished while the latter three are still under construction.
The investment in port and waterway construction reached 51 billion yuan, adding 73 new berths and a string of ferry terminals. Airport construction was also accelerated with funding of over 10 billion yuan, renovating Xiamen Gaoqi, Fuzhou Changle, Quanzhou Jinjiang and Mountain Wuyi airports and building Sanming Shaxian Airport. The total air passenger flow of Fujian province topped 36.95 million during the five year period.
Another 25 billion yuan was allocated to the urban rail transit system with Fuzhou and Xiamen metro projects placed under construction. In addition, as cross-Straits postal cooperation was further enhanced Pingtan was approved to build an international post exchange station. Fujian's postal revenue exceeded 50 billion yuan in the five years, three times the amount of the 11th Five-Year Plan period.
