An assessment meeting for Pingnan county, Fujian province, to apply for the title of "Home to China’s Timber Arched Bridges" and "Home to China’s Folk Martial Arts" was held on Dec 3.
Pingnan possesses a large quantity of ancient timber arched bridges, which are in different styles and well-preserved. They feature delicate designs and reflect a local flavor. Therefore, Pingnan merits the title of "Home to China’s Timber Arched Bridges", according to the assessment group.
Chinese traditional martial arts have a long history in Pingnan, where many professionals and schools originated. The art is popular among local people and has unique features. Pingnan deserves the honor of being called "Home to China’s Folk Martial Arts", said the assessment experts.
The experts gave specific advice in the preservation and promotion of the two cultural heritages, including building museums and display centers, filing the documents, and giving financial support to inheritors and management.
The two titles are expected to facilitate the combination of culture and tourism industries in Pingnan.
