Pingnan athletes win provincial awards

A total of 13 Pingnan athletes got eight gold medals and 11 silver medals in the 2012 Martial Arts Contest, which was held from May 31 to June 1.
Zhou Jiahui won three gold medals; Peng Yujin won two gold medals; Li Heping won two gold medals; and Gan Jiutong won one gold medal. The Pingnan contestants took part in the contest under the guidance of two coaches: Mao Zhijin and Wu Liangdian.
The athletes have won many awards since 2001 when the Pingnan Martial Arts Association was founded. As early as 2002, Pingnan athletes won the second place in the Ningde Traditional Martial Arts Contest. In 2006, they won three first prizes, four second prizes and three third prizes in the same contest. In 2007, they won four gold medals and two silver medals in the Singapore International Mulanquan Martial Arts Contest; while in 2008, the athletes won four gold medals, three silver medals, three bronze medals and five excellence awards. In 2011, they won two gold medals, two silver medals and three bronze medals in the Fujian Nanshaolin Traditional Martial Arts Contest.
Pingnan has a tradition of practicing martial arts; and media such as CCTV, EBC and Sanlih E-Television have been to Pingnan county to shoot traditional martial arts programs. Local media such as Fujian Daily have also made a lot of coverage on traditional martial arts in Pingnan county.
