On Feb 14, the fifteenth day of the first lunar month, Pingnan residents celebrated the Lantern Festival, enjoying public performances such as dragon dances, lion dances, firework displays and lantern riddles.
Pingnan also maintains one particular traditional custom - incense dragon dances - which dates back over a hundred years and which is said to bring favorable weather, peace and prosperity – as well as good luck.
Many incense sticks were inserted into three 10-meter-long incense dragons, including two giant dragons. People also brought their own incense sticks which they inserted into the dragons – an act which is said to bring good luck.
