A total of 20 sanitation workers in Pingnan won low-rent homes in a lucky draw held on Jan 23rd, Pingnan Net reported on Jan 23.

Song Zechang, 60, received one of the 20 homes, and said he was very satisfied as he had been living in a home with a roof that leaked whenever it rained, and he had moved three times over a relatively short period.

In December, the government held a meeting to discuss ways to improve the sanitation workers’ living conditions, and they decided to allocate low-rent homes to 20 workers - who would be required to pay half the rent.

The Pingnan government has 920 low-rent apartments, and 177 applicants are expected to move into a new home.

The local authorities invested $820,000 in a project to build low-rent housing, and construction started in 2011 and was completed in 2013.
