On Oct 18, Pingnan county held a ceremony issuing the first batch of basic pensions under China’s new rural pension insurance system in Lihou village of Shoushan township.
Fifty-two rural people over 60 years of age from Lihou and Beishan villages received a social security card containing the first batch of 55 yuan basic pensions.
The new rural pension insurance system is one of the 10 projects of the Fujian provincial government to improve peoples’ livelihood in 2011. Pingnan is among the third list of counties in Fujian to carry out the scheme. To implement the project to benefit the people well, the county held a mobilization meeting on June 9. Training staff of all townships went to every household to mobilize local residents. The county set up micro payment outlets with a cash dispenser in 89 villages to facilitate villagers to withdraw cash.
So far, 54,700 people, totaling 52.39 percent of the candidates, have participated in the program in the county. They paid 4.43 million yuan insurance premiums – the forefront in the city.
